The Elusive Right Moment

I hate to break it to you, but the right moment doesn’t actually exist. It’s simply an illusion to keep the gears of society turning, until someone else takes your place. Sorry. *Cue the gasps of shock and outrage*

Okay, hear me out… We are all waiting for that ‘perfect moment’. Whether it be to quit your job, to go on that dream holiday or to buy that new dress; we are all waiting for the right time. We believe if we work that little bit longer, save that little bit harder, then eventually we will be able to afford what we’ve always dreamed of. Life doesn’t work that way.
There will always be another bill, an unexpected situation or simply the lingering fear of ‘what if’. In turn, the right moment gets delayed… A week, a month, a year. Before you know it, the opportunity to live that dream has vanished. Taken away by the sands of time or old age.

However, I’m not blaming you for falling into this mindset, I’m blaming society. We were taught from a young age to wish our lives away in search of the ‘perfect time.’
As children, we were told that we couldn’t do what we wanted to do, simply because we weren’t old enough. So we wished to be teenagers.
As teenagers, we were told we couldn’t do what we wanted to do, because we didn’t have the money. So we wished to be adults.
Then as adults, we have the freedom and we may have the money, but we still can’t do what we want to do… because we don’t ‘have the time’ or we have too many ‘commitments.’
So we wait. We patiently wait for the ‘right time’ to come along, continuously turning the cogs of society whilst doing so. What we fail to realise though is that we’re wasting precious time. We definitely aren’t getting any younger, who knows what’s going to happen tomorrow, or when that freak bus accident is going to happen.

Therefore, if you have the means to follow your dreams, there is absolutely no reason why you can’t. End of story. Everything can, and will, wait. Careers, commitments and societal expectations… Trust me, they’ll all be waiting for you when you return.
We can’t predict the future, not yet anyways. (Unless you want to send me $20, In which case I predict I’ll be $20 richer…) But until such time, we need to stop waiting for that elusive ‘right moment’ and live our lives like there’s no tomorrow.
